Search form shown left will be appear by clicking the link "Chromosome Map View" on top page.
You can search DGSP database by GS strain number, gene and cytological map value by using this form. Whole chromosome arm also can be displayed.
.
To search database by GS strain number, just type the number in "GS strain number" field and click "search"(the field accept number only. do not include "GS"). Chromosome map view will displayed unless GS line of the number is inexistent or not mapped yet. See link "GS Line" from top page and refer the stock list.
This option can be used to search GS line insertion related to particular gene.
To search database by gene, type name of the gene in second field and click "search". This field accept full length name, symbol and CG number. If you are not certain the query term you typed in is synonym or not, check "include synonym". Conversely, uncheck the check box if query term is short and surely it's the name. Synonym table used by this database conform to FlyBase.
Other two check boxes "allow partial match" and "ignore case" are self-explanatory, but be careful to use "allow partial match" especially in case query term is short. Too much hit will hung you up.
Result of search by gene shows Search Result page, not direct to map view.

Result page shows hit term is synonym or not and provide link to map view on column "symbol". Hit term is highlighted by coloring red. Note that if the hit term is symbol, it will be colored red and therefore discolored from usual linked object.
To search GS line insertion in particular region, or just to see the region of genome graphically, use this option. Type cytological map value in two fields at the bottom of form and click "search".
This field accept major band(1 - 102), sub band(A - F), and minor band(1 - ). Sub band and minor band are omissible. Also omissible for "To" field. For example, From "42" To "42" provide map view span from 42A1 to 42A17, same as From "42" To "".

Map View consists of genome ruler, boxes for exon, lines attached to boxes for intron, triangles for GS line insertion. Blue boxes above ruler shows genes on sense(+) strand, reddish brown boxes below ruler for genes on antisense(-) strand. Pale colored part of boxes are untranslated region of genes. Apex of triangle for GS vector insertion represent direction of forged expression by Gal4-UAS system. Items specified by search are highlighted by edging red(GS12851 of example above).
Color of triangles for GS vector insertion indicates vector version (for overview, see Gene Search System page. for detailed structure and sequences, see GS Vectors page). For detail, check "Figure symbols" link at right bottom of map flame.

To change scale of the map, use zoom buttons at middle bottom of map flame, or zoom bar, gray bar just below map area.
Red vertical line will appear when you point zoom bar, and be fixed upon first click and second line will be invoked. On following click, area between two red lines will be zoomed.
.
Genes and insertions on Map View are clickable. GS insertion information can be obtained by clicking triangle as below.

"Flanking Sequence" column at far right is linked to genomic sequence flanking to insertion point, 300 base each up & downstream. "|>" or "<|" indicates insertion point and direction of vector. Note that this is genome sequence taken from FlyBase, not inverse nor RT-PCR product.
By clicking boxes for gene yield detailed information of the gene.

Link at "FBgn number" leads to FlyBase Gene Report of the gene.
Links at "Ontology" leads to AmiGO Gene Ontology database of the gene.
